Archives

We sent Justin home because he starts school tomorrow.  But it’s kind if lonely around here now, too.  Sis came down today to spend some time this week while Randy is off working on his step mom’s place, so I am not altogether alone.

And it’s a good thing she did come as she was able to discover the problem with my computer so I am once again able to post photo’s here and my stamps program is working again so I don’t have to make the 16 mile trip to the post office every day to ship looms!

And she told me I was making pictures too big for this blog so this time I’m being conservative. Here are Justin and I before we headed to the airport. I don’t need that orange sweater today, for sure, as the temps are back into the 90’s for a couple days before taking a sharp dip back into the 70’s. What a weather year we’re having! lol Hope your summer has been interesting!

Exploring

Justin eaten by a Megadon.

Hazel & Cori measuring a Redwood tree.

We played in ocean & forest yesterday. Today we head up the coast… I forgot how far… and then tomorrow we’ll head inland. I know I’m going to miss the cool fog once we get back into inland heat!

But I’m making progress on my squares in the evenings. Hope your summer is giving you some good weaving weather.

Tripping

Taking our grandson for a last view of different parts of north California before he has to go home. We are at Klamath today and will visit things marine this morning in Cresent City and then things redwood this afternoon. The temperatre is sweater cool but not coat cold. Nice! We’ll go up the coast into Oregon before turning back inland toward things volcanic- the other parts he wanted to see- where the weather will go back to shorts hot. ;-D

We spent the evening listening to the ballgame after strolling by the river in the dusk, and I wove some more on my project. Hope yours is making progress!

Summer morning

Yeah, it’s my breakfast. Our local organic gardener got a new puppy. A 10 month old 95 lb. Pyrenees. Very playfull and untrained when they got him. Bosco rammed playfully into the side of Tami’s knee and so she is now wearing a brace for at least 6 weeks. I’ve been helping out by picking raspberries for her. Which leads back to my breakfast. 🙂  I’m also working on a project with the looms… it’s a secret! This loom is one of Randy’s Art looms. I snagged it before he could sell it to somebody! Walnut and maple with brass pins. Cool.

It’s been pretty warm days here but last night got rather chilly, had to get up and find an afghan to supplement the one blanket we’ve had on the bed. Had some thunder in the distance a couple days ago but no rain and as far as I can gather, no fires.

Randy will be home this evening and once we get the drip system set up for the tomatoes and the loom orders caught up we’re heading for the coast for a couple days with Justin before he has to head home again.  Haven’t been over in awhile and next summer he plans to go to Alaska so we won’t see the ocean then, either.

But I hope you hare having a summer with hot, but not too hot, days and cool nights! And have some raspberries for your Cheerios!

Summer Fun

The first picture is the local swimming hole in the Trinity River and Grandson Justin taking a leap off the rocks. A thing I could never make myself do! It’s a nice deep hole with wide shallows for the little ones and a shady sloping sandy bank for the mom’s and Dad’s in lawn chairs. The water is no longer quite as snowy cold but still fresh and fairly fast flowing. A popular afternoon site.

The second picture is taken in Hell’s Gate on the Rogue River in Oregon. We went on the Jet Boat tour with sister and her dh. I could not get far enough back to get a good picture and it is a goal of the pilots (with encouragement from the tourists) to get us as wet as possible. I did not want to chance soaking the camera. But I have to admit, I also enjoyed the wetting as it was a hot afternoon. I missed one shoulder with the sun block and it is quite bright this morning! lol

But we had an enjoyable visit, got a bit of shopping done, and are now home again.

Home again

Well, I’m sorry I did not keep my promise to post here while we were on our trip. I forgot to put up links for myself and I could not log in to my admin to post. You might just guess I am not really computer literate.  But we are home again and I have just made sure that I have the links I need the next time we go tripping! And I have tons of photos, of course, which I will not post here. Well, I’ll post some but not the ‘tons’.

The start of our trip was rather white and cold. This was a morning in Nevada where we stayed in a state park. Nice place but the weather wasn’t the greatest! lol

This is a waterfall in Zion National Park. There was just too much to see to even take it all in in one visit. Everything is too BIG!

These things are called HooDoos. They are the hard parts of the sandstone that was left after the rest washed away. This is Red Canyon and my favorite part.

This guy is apparently quite used to tourists in Brice Canyon park, as he sat there and let us take his picture until he got bored with the process and flew off to spiral heavenward on an updraft above this colorful canyon.

While we had snow in the beginning, the desert was blooming beautifully by the time we headed home. I took a bunch of flower pictures but this cactus was among the showy-ist

Met a great lady in this shop in Hatch, Utah. An artist after my own heart! I bought a ‘trinket’ in her shop and we talked art. She’s learning to spin and is taking rug weaving lessons from an Indian gentleman who raises sheep nearby. The town of Hatch is on highway 89 if you are in that part of the country you should not miss a chance to stop and browse her shop!

This is Mount Tom, taken from an over-look as we headed home out of  Bishop, CA. We drove up to Sabrina, not at the top but waaay up there. This is the Sierra Nevada range. There are gobs more pictures but  I think this is enough. You ought to go visit the desert someday, if you can. It is beautiful country to see, but I am happy to live just where I do.

On the road again….

Nearly packed. We need to leave early tomorrow morning to stay even with the storm. Would not like to run out into warn sunny weather when we can travel though rain and snow and freezing temps, now would we? Yeah, I’m being a tad sarcastic. We tried to get Himself to plan the trip later in the month but he kept saying there’d be too many people, the parks would be packed and finally wore us down. Now here we go, just in time to keep pace with what will probably prove to be the last storm of the season. Oh well, the desert show a lot of color when it’s wet. Well, it does if it’s not covered in snow! lol

None the less it will be an interesting trip. Sis and her hubby are caravan-ing with us and we’re going to visit Zion, Bryce, and probably the Grand Canyon. I am looking forward to it.  I’ll be posting here when I can. Hopefully a lot more often than I have been this spring. Sorry ’bout that. And just in case it is to awful to go out, I brought a bit with looms and yarn!

Happy Easter

Sis bought me an Easter basket for my birthday and it is in full bloom now. The first such thing I’ve had in years. Very pretty!

It’s good to have something cheerful around today as it is dark and cold  and sleeting and snowing… No sunrise this morning!

But I understand that the east is having lovely weather for Easter after their wicked winter! Congratulations to you guys!

The loom maker took yesterday off so we’ll be back in the shop today. It is warmer and drier than outdoors, anyway! lol I understand that the interstate is one again having blizzard conditions. Happy to be home in our warm shop!

Hope you are somewhere warm and dry, but if you share our weather, it is at least a good day for yarn. 🙂

Oops… spoke too soon!

This little fellow is actually in Sis’ s yard but ours look pretty much the same this morning.  We got between an inch and two of very light and fluffy snow. This morning the sun is out in a blue sky and the little breeze sets this stuff flying and falling all over again.

Randy had to go fix broken plumbing… Temps in the 20’s again… but once the crisis is over he’ll be back in the loom shop with me. We brought home a load of lumber yesterday and looking forward to this snow melting (again! ;-)) a dozen bags of manure for the gardens.

Hope you are getting some sunny and warm!

Hello

I just wanted to say that I am still here but have been so busy in the loom shop that I have hardly had time for anything else! I did get invited to send in my project to the Handwoven sock yarn contest. I’m rather proud of that. Don’t know if anything will come of it, but once they decide … one way or the other… I guess I’ll be able to show you. Even if they don’t like it, I do ! lol

Meantime, I hope you are getting some spring! Our snow has melted again and the sun is shinning this morning. I know some of you have had way too much winter for one winter so I’m wishing you an equal warm sunny spring!

We’re heading north tomorrow to pick up Randy’s new boots and re-stock the wood shop. This last couple of busy months have nearly depleted our stores. And he wants to visit with our Alaskan friend who is wintering this year in Oregon to discuss the trip up he wants to make.

But it’s back in the shop this morning…
