From the Kingdom of Far, Far Away…

Hiway50Start4 (33k image)

We visited Ocean City, Maryland today, even drove up into Delaware, just so we could say we’d been there! πŸ˜€ But this sign stands on the sandbar side of the bridge. We did not drive the whole length of 50 this time, we joined up with it in Nevada, but we’ve been the rest of the way, or will have once we get back to St. Louis, anyway. And we’ve been on the missing CA part many times.

In the morning we start for Patapsco State Park where we’ll be staying while visiting the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. I’m going to be at the Ravelry get-together in the rabbit barn. Hope to meet friends! πŸ™‚

Boating on Chesapeake Bay

Eddy got his boat out, first time this spring, so naturally we drifted down stream bird-watching for a bit! πŸ˜€ But he got things organized in a little while and we toured upstream as far as the tide would allow and then went out on the bay. We did not get to do any fishing because of the screw-up I made in our time schedule, but we enjoyed our ride anyway. Well, most of us did… Cori , it turns out, is not a boat dog. As soon as we reached shore again she high tailed it for the truck and would not come near the boat again!
Now we’re headed for Ocean City for a couple days before going to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Cool… I wasn’t sure we were going to make it! Hope to meet lots of fiber folk

Beach bumming

We went exploring this morning. Eddy took us to his favorite shark-tooth hunting beach. We also drove around and looked at the town. It’s a lovely day here on North Beach and smells like a hay field! The sun has been shining for two days now so everyone is getting out the lawn mowers! πŸ˜€ Things are blooming and it’s just lovely.
But… I have to waste part of this beautiful day doing laundry. Some things you just can’t avoid, even on vacation. πŸ˜›

Hope it warm and sunny for you!

Visiting Maryland

Maryland (30k image)

We walked the docks today and looked at boats and Chesapeake bay scenery. Lots of condos lining the “shore” here. It’s a former summer place that has become year ’round and densely packed. Too densely for a couple of old country folk! But it’s interesting and very likely a good experience for us. πŸ˜›
But son Eddy (above with Randy) says he does not want to live in San Jose… I fail to see the difference except in humidity!

Hope you are experiencing news things!

PS: We get to go to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival… as tourists! πŸ˜€

TunnelTunnel

We went up the Blue Ridge Parkway today. Gorgeous country! Lots of tunnels. It rained on us a little bit and he made me climb a mountain, which didn’t quite kill me. The view from up there was tremendous, tho. We’re somewhere around Asheville, NC tonight. I’m pooped.

Smokey Mountain Nat’l Park

Everyone has seen the long view of the Smokeys & the fall colors, so I’m posting a more intimate view. The roadsides were rich in trillium of several colors and many other wild flowers, too. Unfortunately not always where we could stop to photograph them. I am still convinced that the Hobbits would love this country! πŸ˜€

Happy Family

Here we are… Elise and me with Karen, at the bottom, and the two boys, goofing off on the front porch while Randy is digging the flower bed so Karen can plant the new hopeful tomato bushes.

Toes

Okay, it may not be lovely spring scenery but it was fun! πŸ˜€ Sister, daughter, & I went together and got pedicures, then went out to lunch before coming home to feed hungry-from-hiking males. Today the boys went to school and we’re going to leave Randy to entertain himself and we’re going to visit the LYS in Chattanooga.
Saturday we put sis back on the plane for Florida and we hit the road again, heading north to visit son. Just in time for the next rain storm it looks like. 😦
Oh well… Mother Nature will have her way. But I’m thankful for these few sunny warm days. Hope you’ve been having some, too. πŸ™‚

Georgia

We’re enjoying our visit with Karen and the boys. Did some sight seeing yesterday and took a lot of pictures, of course, but the one I chose to post here is obviously not one of them. I glanced down at my yarn bag on the floor beside the couch and found it full of frantic activity! They are too small yet to do much damage and were really not interested in the yarn, only ambushing each other from the hiding place. Later they piled up and took a nap in there.
I think we’ll do some more sight seeing today and it’s also time for some domestics again. Laundry piles up even on vacation. πŸ˜›
And it’s raining again. πŸ™„

Arrived!

We’re here in Flintstone, GA at daughter’s for the week, at last! The photo is along the road in Tennessee, taken though the windshield, which accounts for the lesser quality of it but it’s still beautiful. I don’t want to live in Tennessee but I count it as one of the prettier states I’ve been though. Many places are beautiful for different reasons, but Tennessee seems to me to be the spot the Hobbits would choose if they couldn’t have New Zealand anymore.
We are barely into Georgia here but will do some sightseeing this week and I’m sure we’ll find plenty of things to photograph.
I’m sure you saw/read about the tornadoes. We went south of Murfreesboro, but saw signs of smaller storms even there. The storm seems to have moved on, tho, and today looks to be sunny. A good thing, it’s Easter.
Hope your morning is bright and sunny, too! πŸ™‚
