The Road Home

This has been and continues to be one of the prettiest Autumns in a long time. the colors are just fantastic! We had enough rain to close down fire season here in far north California, unlike the unfortunate southern CA.
This is Coffee Creek Road, and my car. I was standing in front of my mailbox to take this. There is not a stretch of Road between here and Weaverville that is not photogenic this month. A bit of wind came up this afternoon and my dirt and gravel parking space is carpeted with a colorful tapestry of leaves. Most of which blew in from my cousins yard, but when I suggested he should rake them he started explaining how the convoluted wind patterns were actually blowing mine onto his lawn… which was suspisously green! lol But I think that means he’s not going to rake for me!
I may be hanging my pictures at the Chamber of commerce this next month if I can come up with the required numbers. But this is the scene I painted today, tho I left my car out of it.
I hope you too, are having a lovely fall this week!

TA-DA! An FO!!!

Well, I have finally & at last completed this project! I’ve learned several things, too …believe it or not! lol I am already planning another one, but with a few modifications. I think the main item for a better fit will be longer shoulders in the back. That’ll probably mean either a bit of knitting on the yoke, or more likely just use of one of the smaller looms in that service. I am pleased with it, all in all, tho. I could not find the buttons I won at Ampleknitters last year, which I planned for this sweater so finally opted for no buttons. I can’t remember the last time I actually buttoned a cardigan, anyway. And I’ve seen them fastened with shawl pins or metal clasps so if I find something along those lines that I like and feel the need I may add one of them later.
But… all in all I am happy with it and Very Happy to have it done!

Mz. Ample2007 is also finished!

As is my mid-term painting! One of the options we are given is to “March to your own drummer” which permission I took advantage of this time.
:hehe:

The Sweater Project

Sweater (156k image)

I see it’s been awhile since I posted… again. Time flies whether you’re having fun or not, don’t it tho? Well, I haven’t been NOT having fun, just busy with whatever, I guess. But I have made a bit of progress on the sweater. Cast on the second sleeve this morning. Did the last one in a day, but I don’t think I’ll be doing marathon knitting today. Once the sleeve is done the button bands should go quickly. Only problem being that I haven’t been able to locate my buttons yet. I was wanting to use those that I won at Ampleknitters Retreat last year. But I’m afraid I put them in one of those ‘safe places’. You know… the ones you can never find again. πŸ˜₯
Well, they may show up yet. Meantime, I guess I’d better get up in the shop and make looms. It’s raining this week so a lot of indoor stuff is getting done. Well, maybe not a lot exactly… πŸ˜›
Hope your week is going well.

New Bag

Bigger-loom-bag (154k image)

This is the bag I found for the larger looms. It’s not perfect but works well. This is the 12″ square so you can see that it’s be a bit short for the 14″ but would still work. There’s lot of room for yarn and project and a pocket for accessories. Unfortunately, there is only 3 of them left and it’s first come, first served. I’m calling to see if I can get more or something even better, maybe?!

A new volcano?

Eruption1 (97k image)

I caught this photo as I was coming home the other night! Can you believe that I’d actually have my camera with me at a time like this! lol It was so cool watching this develop. It only lasted for a couple of minutes just as the sun was setting but it sure looked like our Billy’s Peak was going to erupt. No, it’s not really volcanic, I’m happy to say! πŸ˜€

We had a clear day yesterday but we’re due more rain tomorrow, I’m told. Himself is in the middle of a remodel and has the roof off so he’s not a happy camper…er carpenter, that is, just now.

Hope things are going well where you are. πŸ™‚

Apples

Looks like I was wrong about the apples. The Red Delicious is the only one with any apples and they are not quite ripe, I think but might be tart enough for a pie. It would seem like such a mild year would have been good for them, but it must have been wet about that time. I can’t remember. but it looks like we’ll be buying our fruit this winter. Oh well… More time for weaving. Right?! πŸ˜€

The last blooms of summer

lastboquet (212k image)

Went around the yard just now and this is what I found. A few last … the yellow things… some asters, the fuchsia is doing well, some red clover and sage leaves. Not a lot but a pretty bouquet. The pears are from my sister, our tree didn’t produce this year. I think we’ll have a few apples. In fact, I’d better go check those before this storm gets cranked up. They’ve got us up to a 90% chance for measurable precip tonight. The first this fall. I think I’m ready. Spent the morning ‘winterizing’ the yard… putting away lawn tools, and flower pots, moved house plants & dog beds indoors, raked and swept and it’s looking good, I think. Guess we’re as ready as we’re going to be. You know it’s time when the weather page starts mentioning snow levels. They are still up there at 5500′ but it’s coming… 😎

Weaving a sweater.

Well, I frogged my sweater… again. This time I decided to weave it. The sleeves will be knitted and maybe the yoke, I haven’t decided that for sure but the ‘skirt’ part is going to be woven. I’m using the special 20″ square Randy made for me. I had him make that one for a project I had in mind and after I nagged him to finally get it done, I discovered that I had measured wrong and it wouldn’t work! Red face! So I’m glad to be able to put it to work on another project! lol
I finally got some new buttons on the baby sweater and will take those in to the hospital this coming week. Not many babies are born at our local hospital but there’s a few who will be able to use the ‘fruits of my labors’ for the ‘fruits’ of theirs!;)
We finally broke down and built a fire. The last ones in the neighrborhood to do so. But Robin was cold. πŸ˜› Poor kitty… we did it just for him. Hope your September is neither too hot or too cold.

After

Thought I ought to show what a good job we did with all that mess! So here is the ‘after’. Spent yesterday getting the studio ready for the cats. It’ll soon be time for them to start staying in for the winter so everything has to be prepared for cat fiber, which they are generous with. Washable afghans on all the chairs. Breakables put away. Yarn safely hidden. Litter box filled once again. πŸ˜› Summer is so much easier on all of us!
But it was 41 degrees this morning and the trees are showing the first faint signs of autumn. Dust off your looms… it’s time to be thinking of Christmas presents again! πŸ˜€

My Goodness!

Before_9a (122k image)

Didn’t realize it had been so long since I posted! If you want to know why, here’s one for you. This is the loom maker relaxing at home last weekend! πŸ˜€ but we got the job done* and the living room is back together and looks better than it has in the thirty years or so since it was last painted.
I’m not done with my Home Improvement projects, but this was the major one for awhile. I have to tell you, tho, *that he still has half the ceiling to paint yet!
I’ll try to be a little faster to post after this.
Hope your summer is not slipping by as fast as mine!
