Finished.

I finally have the baby blanket finished. Nearly have the mixer cover finished but ran short of yarn with only a few to go. I’ll get to town this week and hopefully Jan with still have another skein in her shop.

We’re  getting ready for our trip to the Big Sky Festival. This is our first time for this show but our second trip to Hamilton Montana. Then we have to hurry home and do laundry then off to Eugene, Oregon for the Black Sheep Gathering. Haven’t been to that one for years and am looking forward to it.

I am hoping to have a few new projects to show as examples.

Things have been busy around here. Randy is making looms, trying finish our new porch, getting the composts piles ready for the new bed and trying to keep his construction customers happy, too. So far, so good! Except for the porch… Now that he has the roofing off the house, Mother Nature decided it was time for a couple days of rain. Well, it’s Memorial Day weekend… bound to happen, huh?! I’ve been in the shop, too, trying to keep up with him, plus projects, printing, getting the garden going, and all the domestic fun that has to continuously be done as we all know. But it’s been a pleasant month, too. And my little peach tree has a whopping big crop this year! Had to thin some off and may have to thin it again. This is the most it’s ever had!

Okay, enough chat. I made a determination to keep this blog more up to date than I have been doing. I’ve probably lost my three followers already, huh? lol Hope you are all having a wonderful and warm, windless! spring.

New dress

I found a “new” doll named Hitty. I have ordered her book called, “The First Hundred Years” so you know she’s not really new, only new to me. But I find that she is about the same size as Mini Molly and  so this Virginia Larkin pattern (5G) fits her just fine. I used fingering yarn and #00 needles for this one. I added the flowers and the picot bind off. I am knitting another pattern for her but using lace yarn #1 yarn for it. Time will tell. I am planning some woven outfits for this little lady as well.

Class Loom

This is the class loom. there are 18 of them but more can be made if you might need them. They have a 3 1/2″ weaving area and the nails are spaced at 3/8 th inch. They come with instruction for weaving diagonally. You can get them with or without the weaving hooks.

These small looms are very suitable for children. They are small and quickly woven so the children can finish a square in a reasonable time, before their interest can wane. I have a few projects for making their own toys that I will include with the looms., my grandson models one popular project.

In the samples below, the upper one is woven with a double strand of worsted yarn and the lower with a single strand. Bulky hand spun is also a good yarn for this loom.

End of WAL

The Weave Along is finished and was a great success. I think everyone enjoyed it and  they turned out some wonderful projects. I think it even converted a few new weavers to the  craft! Here’s a little overview of some of the projects. If you didn’t finish your project, it’s not too late! You missed the drawing for the little prize, but we’d love to see your dress!

Look what I found…

I was looking for a certain yarn, which I did not find, but look what I did find. Must have been stashing these ‘practice’ pieces in this drawer for a long time, but had forgotten about them. Don’t know how long they’ve been gathering. But it looks like a project. A creative one. lol Hummm wonder what I can make of this mess! There’s some interesting things here.  Wonder if I can remember how I did it and what it was supposed to be for. Nope. Just start again.

The Weave ALong at Ravelry is going along great. There are some very nice doll dresses being completed. If you have not joined yet, there is still time and we’d love to see your version! Meantime, here’s a little hint on assembling small squares faster and easier, in case you haven’t run across this method yet.

A couple of ways to assemble rows of blocks, no matter what size. There are less ends to  deal with  this way, which you’ll love!

1. Lay them out in the pattern you want.

2. Sew or crochet them together the longest way leaving no extra apace between the blocks.

3. Sew or crochet them together the short way, squaring up the corners.

An invitation

I am issuing an invitation to anyone interested to join us on American Girl Knitters for a WeaveALong to make a dress for an 18 inch girl doll. She doesn’t have to be an AG. I will be using the 4” Square Multi Loom but you can also use your weave-it or the Tiny Weaver Square or any other loom you have that will make a 3 1/2” to 4” square.
As a little bonus, I am offering 10% off the 4” Multi loom  for weavers who would like to join in but don’t have a loom. (Sorry you missed the sale but you can still get your hand crafted hard wood loom at www.hazelroselooms.com )
This is a great group for doll lovers of all ages and we’d be delighted to have you join us. The WAL will start
February 1 so you have time to go though your stash, find your looms and yarn. I will be using a variety of yarns, mostly sock yarns but any that makes a nice fabric on your loom will do fine.
No age limits, either direction! Come play with us!!

Samantha is modeling the dress we’ll be making but I have several other patterns to share with WAL Members!

This peasant girl skirt can be made as full as you like. Mine may not be quite full enough. I guess Molly hasn’t spun up enough sock yarn! lol

And there are more, once you see the possibilities with small looms, there’ll be no stopping you!

Here’s a couple of the fancier ones I’ve made, some using more than one loom. Well, you get the idea! Even tho the layout of these pictures is getting weird on me you can see that you can do a lot with your little loom.  You don’t need to knit to make a great wardrobe for you doll! But come join us and learn how easy it really is. And how much fun!

‘Tis the Season to be….

…Jolly well overly busy! The fourth week on the jury and now we have an added 2 1/2 hours to our day. That means I leave here at 7 am and hope to get home by nine pm. But we are still working hard to get your loom orders on the way to you!

Just wanted to reassure you who might be waiting. Randy has been spending his time in the shop and I’ve been out there evenings and weekends, too. We’ll get it done and want to thank you all for your patience!

Meantime, there hasn’t been one snowflake! We’re due some rain later this week, the NOAA people tell us, and they did mention a snow level of 4000′ which is as low as it’s been so far, mostly over 6000′. We sometimes get a little wet snow here when they call for 4000′ tho we are are at 2500′. Our little valley is a cold one. I would like a bit of snow before Christmas. Hate driving in it but the first snow is so pretty and makes it feel more like Christmas, don’t you think?

Hope you are having fun this December and staying warm and safe. If you’ve placed an order… it is coming!
