Fiber Mania

We just got back from Grant’s Pass and the Fiber Mania event. This fiber show is sponsored by the Alpaca guild there in southern Oregon. Now you want to talk about your luxury fibers? It is really hard to resist this one! And I didn’t. In fact, I would not be surprised if a good portion of our profits came home in the form of alpaca yarns! lol

Once I get the house cleaned up after being ignored for so long while we traveled hither and yon that’s going to take awhile as it really needs the attention!

I got a photo of my American Girls modeling some woven dresses and shawl for visitors at the show. And the baby was also popular.

Patrick is my kid magnet! lol The kids lug Momma into the booth as soon as they spot Patrick! I guess I need to weave another Sponge Bob to go with him. The first one has gone home with a grandson.

We had a great time and got to spend a couple nights with my sister and her husband, who always put us up and feed us without complaint! Nobody loves you like family! They’re coming down for Thanksgiving. I thought I’d make the guys thankful this year and not make them eat more turkey so I bought a Prime Rib. Gasp! Thought I was going to have to hire a Brink’s truck to bring that home! lol I just hope I can do it justice, never having cooked this expensive bit of cow before. But for Christmas it’s going to be turkey again!

A little bit of Christmas weaving

Jan and I have been showing this doll in her shop. I made the outfits and the patterns and she is holding the raffle, the profits of which will go to the charity of the winner’s choice. I wrote up patterns for all but the poncho and hat, which are pretty simple. The patterns are available in Jan’s shop and also on Ravelry for those of you who don’t have access to the Sweet Sheep in Weaverville. It’s been a fun project. For the store patterns we made up little kits. The tutu pattern, for example, comes with the lace and a beaded necklace, Jan carries the yarns used. The Cropped Top and Low Rider shorts has the belt included. Sophia and her wardrobe will make some little girl happy this Christmas!

The Shoe Project

(This is by the way but I just wanted to mention that I am not turning the comments on and off. This web page is doing it randomly and I can’t figure it out! If anyone know why this happens I’d appreciate a clue.)
I mentioned on my doll list that I was going to get Himself to make me a “cookie cutter” to cut the craft foam for making the soles of doll shoes. A lot of the members seemed to think that was a great idea. Well he has made it but it turns out that it is not feasible to make them to sell so what i am planning to do is to cut out the soles and sell them in kits. Here are three of the first 5 pair I’ve made. I think I’ve finally got it down. the red pair is made with some of that fabric that has the sequin-like disks fused onto it. They are lined but the next pair with such thin fabric will also be interfaced or lined with some stuff fusible iron on stuff. They fit but would be easier to get one if the back was a little stiffer. The felt pair go on easily. the sandals I’ve experimented with. One pair has sewn on snaps on the straps and the other pair, I glued the snaps on. We’ll see how long those stay on. I have a hunch it’s probably not going to be long. But all in all, I think I’m nearly ready!

January…

What can you say. it’s January. Kinda like Monday. lol Well, we have been at work in the loom shop, Randy is helping a friend move as well. They are giving up their grocery and gift shop here in TC. Just can’t make ends meet anymore. We are slowly becoming a ghost town. Very depressing, very January.

But on the other hand Randy did finish building a car for our grandson, a model of our old Jimmy, which he loved. I think it looks great. The real one is bright red but this one is walnut and maple.

I am knitting and weaving and reading and doing laundry and rearranging furniture… you know, the kind of stuff you do in January.

A WAL… a weave along!

We’re having a little Weave along on Ravelry Looms To Go based on the popular sudoku puzzles. Some of you can make your own patterns but I can never solve those things so have to ‘cheat” and get somebody else’s answers. I got one done and even assembled it wrong but it was too late by the time I discovered that so it stays! 😉 Anyway, if you have a square loom… it doesn’t matter which one or what size, come join us! This is my first one. I’m using the 2″ square and making a doll blanket. I like dolls (Did you guess! lol) and it will go fairly fast, leaving me time to fit it in with all the rest of the stuff on my to-do list.
We had a sunny day today with a high of 36. The Weather Wizards have promised us sunshine nearly all week and even a couple of degrees warmer days and nights. That would be good. Hope the sun is shining on you, too. Get out you looms and join our WAL!

Happy Christmas Day!

Randy and I stayed home this year and enjoyed our Christmas. He gave me a new glass case for my dolls so we spent the better part of the morning rearranging things so we could fit it into an already crowded room! But it looks nice and I can see my dolls now and the settee can also be used. They used to be parked in a row there.

Both kids called today. We talked to everyone which was very nice. Talked to Randy’s step-mom this morning too, and was able to thank her for her contribution to our Christmas day. We’ve had dinner this evening and are about to indulge in dessert then just listen to carols, the rain, and read. A comfortable and satisfactory ending to a lovely day. I hope you all enjoyed yours too!
Happy Christmas!

Wow! What happened to this month

December has flown by and here I am not posting again. Been busy but that’s a poor excuse, isn’t it.
It has rained off all the snow but there is more predicted for today. We’ll see. Poor sleep last night. The bear was back for his weekly pass though but stopped here for a couple hours. We got a new fridge and the old one is setting in the driveway waiting to be hauled off. Still smells like food tho, I guess, if you have a bear nose. He did get it open and pulled out the drawers trying to find some goodies. Dog barking, husband yelling… I hope he doesn’t come back tonight.
I have Christmas songs on the XM this morning and am working on a holiday sweater for one of my dolls. I might get ambitious later and do some domestics. Himself has gone to help a neighbor move and then to visit his step-mom so I have the whole day to goof off. Yeah, that part about getting ambitious might have been a fairy tale.
Hope you are having a restful holiday season and not stressing out.
Don’t Worry, Be happy! Still good advice.

Correction to HandWoven pictures

The printer accidentally inserted the same picture twice in my first magazine article. This is the missing picture for step number “d”. If you are making this dress this is the skirt assembly.

This was pretty exciting first for me. Today I got my issue of the magazine and also my Samantha doll back from the photographer. I want to thank the people at HandWoven magazine for taking such good care of my little girl! The editor has expressed an interest in my toddler dresses, too, so I’ll have to get busy working on them so I have something to show her when she’s ready.

I have been working…

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted but things have been hopping around here. I’ve lost my loom room… the rented studio where I had my big rug loom and my huge yarn stash… so have been busy trying to make space here for everything. I did find a new home for the loom with a weaver who I am sure will put it to good use.
But I am getting some weaving done on the small looms. I am working on a popular crochet pattern… The Ripple afghan. I’m making a small version for a doll blanket and using the small tumbling block loom. It would also work with the diamond. I’m using Christmas colors as It’s going to be near that time by the time I finish.

Doll clothes

Well, here’s the cargo pants and her new Heart On Her Sleeve sweatshirt. I am still having trouble up loading pictures to the net so a lot of my list stuff is getting posted here. These are  some things for a chaeity, not sure just yet which ones will be included in the end. The cargo pants are a little big so may try that again a tince smaller.

Here’s my version of babydoll PJ’s and a skirt and top with a crocheted hat.
