Fire moon

moom_mountain (46k image)

The moon these mornings is Harvest Moon full and bight orange. That’s the smoke coming over the alps from the fire down river. I heard they were getting close to 25% contained, but it’s also getting close to several small towns over there. The sun was looking a bit red today, too. It’s cooling off this week and I think the humidity is due to rise a bit as well, which will help fire fighting, as long as the wind stays down. They promise us no rain, however. I hope if you’re out in the woods these days you are being VERY, VERY careful with burning things. You should not be smoking, for your own health, but if you must, please do it in your car and dispose of the butts in the ash tray. Do that for the health of the forest and all us creatures who live there!
Thank you! πŸ™‚

FO… at long last!

F&F3 (145k image)
I finally finished my Feather and Fan tablecloth. It’s the F&F pattern from Gathering of Lace worked in crochet thread. There are 4 subtle color changes in it since I ran out of the first thread that I had in my stash (I thought I had enough 😦 ) and then couldn’t find the rest of the stuff Sis bought for me, then… well, I lost track of the 3rd one or it could just be my imagination… so the last one, which is the most obvious, is one I bought myself. By that time I didn’t care what color it was, I just wanted to get it finished! lol Anyway, all in all I think it turned out pretty good. I didn’t pin out all the stupid little loops on the edging, in fact, if it hadn’t been more work to frog than to finish, I would have, about half way round, just bound it off plain. Well, I’ll take an iron or something to the edge and flatten it out a bit.
Anyway, as you can see, it almost fits my dining table. And No! :O I’m not making another one for it! glad its finished.
I didn’t work the center motif because I intend it for a lamp table and didn’t figure it’d show all that fancy work, besides, I didn’t want to work out the chart. Yeah, I’m a lazy knitter! lol
So! That’s done and I’m down to only 2 UFO’s! Way to go, Hazel!

Another sign of the approaching Autumn

Concords4 (226k image)

The birds are really enjoying the Concords this year. They always do, but there are more of them than usual with the rainy spring we had. I notice the apples are beginning to drop windfalls and the pears are also swelling! It’s going to be a bumper crop and I still haven’t used all I put in the freezer last fall. I might can a few apples but I guess I’d better start looking for people who’d like to have some. There are not many left who do any canning. I do a bit but, really, for just the two of us, it’s hardly worth it since we’re no longer allowed pies or cakes or any of the good stuff you use the canned fruit for. Well, the alpaca, pigs, and donkeys will enjoy some of it.
Meantime… It does make a pretty picture, doesn’t it?! πŸ˜€

Home Sweet Home

East_Fork_Rd.2a (155k image)
We really do live in some beautiful country. This is no place in particular… I could have taken a shot anywhere along this old dirt logging road and it would have been just as lovely and scenic. The East Fork of the Trinity is running over white rocks in the canyon below, the last of the wild flowers are blooming on the road cuts and even the poison oak is beginning to take on it’s fall colors. Hawks and squirrels and deer… there’s tracks of a bear who wandered down the road sometime before we got here. I’m so glad I didn’t choose to live in the city. For all it’s inconvienences, I love my mountains! πŸ™‚

An outing

Cutting_Bark (148k image)
I haven’t been out in the woods in a long time. Now that I don’t have Grandmother to watch I can go, but just haven’t had the opportunity lately. Randy asked me if I’d like to go help him get bark for the Lion’s BBQ so I went. He is cutting the bark off some old half rotted firs from a decades old deck. It was a nice ride. Seemed like new territory as it’s been so long since I’ve been out the east side. The BBQ is tomorrow and we’ll go to that as well. it’s a fund raiser for several local groups. The Lion’s, naturally, but both fire depts and the artist assc. as well. Locals and tourists all look forward to it each labor Day. Hope you’re enjoying your days off!

Time to change our ways…

CatNap2 (130k image)
I think you can guess who spent the night out carousing. It’s getting to be the time of year when they need to start coming in at night. The only way I’ve found to convince a naturally nocturnal animal to come in at night is too withhold the groceries during the day and not allow access to this cozy green chair! So he’s going to be sent outdoors in a few minutes and they can come in after dinner and the doors will close after them. It won’t be long until they’ll be spending the winter in the studio, safe from hungry predators. I know that everyone needs to eat, but… not my cats, thank you! I hate cooping them up for 5 months of the year, but it’s the only safe way and at least they get the other 7 to feel (mostly) free, which is more than a lot of cats ever know.
But enough of philosophy! I’m going to town today so better get started. Hope you enjoy your day! πŸ™‚

TA-DA!

kitchenrug2 (55k image)

Here’s my new hand woven kitchen rug all hemmed! I’m quite pleased with it and am ready to start the next project! That’s going to be some upholstery fabric to recover a Mission rocker of belonging to my bro-in-law. Then another rug I think. And maybe some xmas presents. Not too soon to be thinking of that is it? πŸ™„ Well… thinking never hurts much, anyway!

Pie time again

peaches (118k image)

The jays and the deer have been feasting, they’re falling on the ground, I picked this 5 gallon bucket and there’s probably at least another 10 gallons on the tree. I told Noel to find somebody who wanted them… and fast! They are ripening very fast.
I bake pies for him every year in exchange for my share, but there are just too many to use at once and I’m not canning anymore for just the two of us.
But they sure are good right off the tree! πŸ™‚
