Took this picture in the yard today. I think it’s a young CedarBerry tree. π
The new cell fone case…

Not exactly a case I guess but it will keep it from being bunged up in my rather crowded purse. It’s cuter than the camera case/bag, but it’s also a tight fit! lol I just grabbed some yarn and it tuned out to be hand-spun, easter egg dyed, navajo plied, samoyed. I think it’s going to continue to ‘bloom’… get really fuzzy, as this kind of yarn has in everything I’ve used it for. Much furrier than even angora! Well, I may have to make another ‘case’ for the fone but meantime, it is rather cute, I think! π Oh yes. I used the 2 x 4″ Multi that Randy made for me.
Soaking up some rays

Tazeron & Robin sitting on the back step enjoying the last of the evening sunshine. It was a little smoky again today. Not as bad as it was earlier, but not as nice has it has been all last week. Still, we rode up Bonanza King to visit one of the old copper mines and just get out for a change. Even with the haze of smoke it’s beautiful country and you get a wide view from up there. We didn’t make it to the look-out but but it was nice to get out. Have hardly been anywhere this summer.
Hope your weekend is clear and bright.
7″ square as a weavie

Found this pattern on Jana’s blog and wondered if it would work on the 7″ square. It does… with adjustments. I’ll write these up and post them later but Himself wants to go Now…
… so I’m off.
Cut & past.. http://eloomanator.eloomanation.com/
Okay, back to the square. Instructions say under one over 5 across, but with the number of nails on the 7″ square the last set is under one, over 3, under the loop, then you return repeating the previous row, you’ll go over and under the same strands as you did the last time. Then one row of plain weave, and repeat. I thought it looked a little thin so I wove the variegated strand though just the needle woven part and followed it exactly. It would be easier to just weave a double strand the first time. I left long tails and wove then down the sides, following the previous strand there as well. It looks better on the side with the variegated yarn, I think. I think, tho if I do this one again, I’ll weave double the whole thing. I used a worsted weight wool and I’m thinking I may try felting it. If I do, I’ll post the results (if they aren’t too awful! )
A second bloom

It’s the second bloom for these two– which is a first! π I finally got brave enough, or desperate enough, to prune. I haven’t a clue but I did it and they have enjoyed it no end and here’s my reward! I will tackle the white climber this fall and hope for as good luck.
I’ve moved most of my mini roses, which were doing poorly and have been rewarded by blooms from them as well. These are all clustered around the kitchen door and the doe hasn’t ventured that far just yet. She doesn’t seem to bother the climbers on the lawn side, dunno if that’s because they don’t taste good or if they are just protected by being right on the house.
Tho come to think if it, she ate cousin Kathy’s potted plants on her front door step! π I can understand the lilies, deer seem to love lilies, but she ate the marigolds, too, and I’ve never know anything to eat marigolds. But she also ate my rhubarb leaves…!
August is getting hot out here. Hope you are keeping cool! Weave Cotton!

http://bugguide.net/node/view/19538#web_references You’ll have to cut and paste to use the link, I dunno how to do ‘hyper’ here. But it can help you identify the bugs in your yard. I’ve found a couple of my butterflies and this guy is a Yellow Faced Bumblebee And he love my yard. They are visiting the self-heal and the plantain and also like the oregano. I did see a smaller bee, only got a quick glance but it looked like are regular honey bee. Only saw the one if that was it. Pretty scary but at least we have these guys. and I found two more kinds of butterflies today. Haven’t been able to identify them very accurately yet. Small guys. One might even be called tiny.
Anyway… keep in mind that most bees (not to be confused with wasps and hornets!) are not aggressive and we Need them! Please don’t poison your yard!
Think green… also alive!
She brought the babies today!

The doe finally brought her babies around today. The one on the right was so busy eating my raspberries that she didn’t even see me crawling across the lawn to try to get her picture until her later coming twin spotted me. She thought about it for some time and then decided she’d better not take any chances and hopped back over to Mom, who was eating our apple tree. They are cute! I wish I had a camera with a longer lens. I can’t get close enough before I spook them. Oh well… Guess I’d better get out and pick the berries. I noticed some ripe ones this morning. There may be some left! π
Berries Galore!

The raspberries are having a bumper year, the blackberries, tho not yet ripe, are loaded and I just noticed the Bear-berry out by the old tulip tub is also showing a full crop. I understand these can be eaten, but the ones I tried were not what I’d call palatable. But they are pretty. Don’t know if the bears eat them or not, but I hope they don’t come after those in my yard, anyway!
Smoke is easing off here.
Hope your week is going well! π
Wild Black cap raspberries

This is a great year for berries. I have never see so many blackcaps! I even have them in the yard, tho this bowlful didn’t come from there. There is going to be a good crop of black berries, too, if they get enough sun though all this smoke to develop their sugar. And the apple & pear trees are loaded this year, too. Yuummmm!
What have I got?

My dh bought this today at a second hand shop and we think it’s a weaving shuttle but I never saw one like this. Can anyone enlighten us? On the inside under the bobbin it says 110 and R.G. Pratt Co. I have posted a couple photo’s on my web site. http://www.hazelroselooms.com/workbook/?
The only thing I got from google was a seismic scientist by that name. I don’t think this has anything to do with earthquakes, tho! lol
A P.S. It apparently is a shuttle from a loom that weaves silk ribbon, an automated kind of thing, most of what I can find out mentions ‘antique’ but , frankly, if this is antique it was very little used, it does not look old or even very much used tho it does have a threaded bobbin in it. I cannot find a photo of the bobbin in a loom, however. Oh well…
