A real yarn…

yarn2a (31k image)

The ample knitter’s have had a thread about sneaking yarn into the house because of family objections to stash. I don’t have to do that and here a bit of proof. Randy came home today with a surprise for me. He’d been in the Goodwill and made a “haul”! He paid $20 for all this yarn. There’s one big grocery bag filled with “denim”, it’s acrylic, I haven’t looked to see what brand yet, and the other bags are bigger than 5 gallon buckets. There’s wool and mo and all sorts of man-made fibers. It’s going to take some time just to see what’s there! And then a place to put it until I can use it up. I don’t think I can keep up with his yarn buying at this rate!

Morning magic!

Moon_Morning1a (59k image)

Went out this morning and saw the sun shining thought the yellow tops of the cottonwoods. This picture doesn’t show how brightly they were glowing, really and the sickle of moon hanging above. Had to run get the camera.
Well, Rosy and I are having a fiber day today and …maybe… I’ll have something to show here tomorrow! lol
Hope your autumn is as beautiful as it is here.

winter_window (64k image)

Not much has been happening lately but thought I should post anyway so here is a view of my winter window. The plants take up most of the space. I had to tie the ‘string of hearts’ into a knot to keep it off the floor and away from Randy’s feet when he’s sitting here at the computer (that white is the corner of the monitor). The Coleman is still hanging there. He did put it away this spring but had to get it out again, the power’s been going off frequently this summer. It was out for some time during the night, probably a tree down, as the wind has been blowing gustily for two days now. The widow glass is etched by the aluminum frames, we’re replacing them in the spring. He’s talking about french doors, but I think we should stay with the widows… where else am I going to put the plants in the winter! That pile of bags are my in-progress projects. The brown bag holds the Teddy bears I’m weaving for a charity thing. The green one is my on-going Diamond Patch sweater, the blue is the knitting needles, the circulars and double points, and I think there’s some woven mitten experiments in the print bag. I’m working on weaving a poncho and one other Xmas present that I can’t talk about here just yet! Well, this is long winded! πŸ˜› Sis is coming down today and we’re going to town tomorrow to visit Pop then spend the weekend doing ‘fiber’ projects and visiting.
Hope you are all enjoying some of this fine November sunshine!

Customer’s work

LaticiaMullineEllens_small (50k image)

Laticia sent this photo of the poncho she wove using the 3′ tri Randy made for her. She is weaving alpaca for the breeder who was impressed with her work at a recent show. Looks like she is going to have lots of business. She does beautifyul work, as you can see. I love when weavers share with me what they are making with their looms. πŸ™‚ It’s so nice to see that the looms really are being used and not sitting in the closet where so many fiber “toys” end up. There’s more pictures on the gallery page of the webpage at http://www.hazelroselooms.com if you’d like a peek.

The view across the road…

Morrison_Gulch (64k image)
We had a sprinkling of snow on the lawns and roofs this morning… an Evil Warning of what’s to come!
Oh yes… I seem to have reached that stage of life when I love a bit of snow on Christmas morning and the rest of the time I love it on the mountain tops!:D
And, of course, the wood shed is not full, the leaves have not been raked (most are still on the trees!) and there’s still the hoses to put away and the stuff on the patio to put up. Some planters have to be moved… Winter’s a lot easier in the Souf’lan… or so I think until I remember the cleaning up after hurricanes. That makes snow a bit more tolerable! lol πŸ˜› I think I’ll go sit by the fire and weave a bit…. Stay warm!:)

Red Hats

RedHatEtnaDrugstore (27k image)

We drove over to Etna and had lunch at the Etna Brewery. A very good lunch, too. Then we hiked up the main street en masse to the Drugstore, gift shoppe, and old fashioned soda fountain where the proprietor wanted our picture to display behind his fountain. He was obliging enough to click all our cameras for us  After that we visited a couple of “junk stores” and found some treasures, then went back and toured the brewery, learning how they make beer, and came on home. My car mate and I waved to our husbands somewhere on the hiway home. They were on their way to Happy Camp for Lion’s club exchange visit. A big social day for the whole family! lol

My version of Red Hat!

RedHatEtna8a (25k image)

I made the shirt with some material I found in Walmart, it’s holographic with bats and moons so of course my “normal” red hat wouldn’t go. I had the Wizard hat I had knitted and felted this past summer so I kool-aid dyed it red. Just the thing for an old bat, hummm?! πŸ˜›

My “poncho-ette”

purple_poncho (13k image)
Three’s a charm they say. This one fits but not as well as I’d like. The design is “skirt” shaped and has no shoulder shaping which accounts for the roll at the neckine. This sort of design might work on a thin person but we amples need shoulder room. The next one will have that. I like this design so, yes, I’ll do it again. And still a bit longer, I think. The pattern is Razor Shell Capelette from Rosie’s Knits. Dunno why Razor Shell but must have reminded designer Grace Robbins of something I’m not familiar with. πŸ™‚

More Autumn yarn colors

woodbind (40k image)

Here’s the red I mentioned in the last autumn post. I pasted it onto a photo of the woodbine growing on my porch. This is the brightest red in the country. Even out-doing the poison oak, I think. It’s all going into the next diamond project, which is making a little progress….
I’m making a little progress in being ready for winter too. A little…
