Mac has just spotted his first hermit crab! They found anemones, snails, shelled critters of all kinds, little fish and big crabs, all sorts of fancy sea-weed, but no starfish this time.
From sea to shining sea…

The East coaster’s first dip in the Pacific ocean. They loved playing in the surf. It’s a lot differernt from the beaches of Florida where they have played before! lol Cold, cold cold, but it didn’t deter them!
The view from the top

Here they are with Mt. Shasta in the background. I wish I could show you “life-sized! The whole 360 degree view is incredable. You get a great view of the lake from here, too.
On top of the world

Maybe not quite on top. 6956 foot above sea level, which is not bad. The view is wonderful The whole of Trinity Alps to the west and volcanic Mt. Shasta looming to the east. Lynn has been look out for many years. I used to be her relief looong time ago. We had a nice visit. They are all looking at Grumpa, who wouldn’t get in the picture!
We had lunch at Scorpion Lake and “swam” in Scorpion Creek with the water snake. Karen scared up a doe and fawn and there was a grouse hen with one nearly grown chick in the road. That’s all the wildlife we saw other than a few squirrels. Chris did collect some bear hair from the splintery bridge railing which he rolled into “string”… what he calls yarn making! His bear string was about 6” long. We didn’t get the potato salad made so we’re having soup with our hot-dogs, but at least we’re partly Traditional! lol Hope your weekend Sparkled!
Our ‘Jack of all trades’
Chris has turned out to have a knack for more than just weaving. His bedroom window is lined with paper cups with seedling trees of just about every variety we have in the yard! π His sweet potato is the champion, tho. He planted it in a shallow dish but it seems to be thriving. Here he is sunning his plant and having breakfast. The dirt pile is still the favorite play place. Randy hauled that in about 4 years ago to build flower beds (which are still only half done! :P) and it was a favorite of Justin’s, too.
Ice Cream

Chris isn’t quite as green as this photo shows (my flash didn’t go off when it should have) but he did paint on his “house” today! π We went to the top of Parks Creek Road this afternoon and got caught in a thunder storm and got hailed on. We didn’t bring a tarp or blanket, just had a couple of swimming towels for the guys in the back of the pick-up! But we out-ran the storm and went swimming. When we got home we had looms to finish so had a late dinner of chili and hotdogs and finished it off with ice cream. But not on the living room furniture! π
Something fishy… at last!

They struck it rich yesterday! Five nice fat trout. None of them had eaten trout before and all enjoyed them for dinner tonight. Me, too! π They’ve gone out to try their luck again this evening.
A new kind of sock

Karen, who goes barefoot or wears sandals if she has to wear shoes, says her heels dry and crack and she has to grease them and wear socks at night but she hates socks becuse they make her feet too hot. So she wanted “heel socks”. Okay… Well, this is what I came up with and she seems delighted with them. It’s Opal yarn on #1 & 2 bamboos. I made the heel a little long because she has really high arches, and started and ended 2/2 with ribbing.
Dam Building in Coffee Creek

We all trooped up this afternoon to build up the dam that puts water into Treasure Creek. Randy says we’ve raised the water level about 5″. The dogs went along but I can’t say they helped much! We got it done by the time the thunderstorm moved in and and were in dry clothes and sitting on the porch before it started raining. Didn’t rain a lot, just enough to help dampen any lightening strikes. I hope! π¦
Sure cooled things off, tnicely, tho. It was 85 degrees when we went up and is down to 63 now. Guess we’ll eat dinner inside tonight since the picnic table is quite wet!
A hot summer day

After Rosy left, Karen took the kids swimming. The popular holes were full on such a hot day so they wandered off up Ramshorn Creek and found a nice place to play in the water. Stephanie had seconds thoughts about riding this shute! lol
