An invitation

I am issuing an invitation to anyone interested to join us on American Girl Knitters for a WeaveALong to make a dress for an 18 inch girl doll. She doesn’t have to be an AG. I will be using the 4” Square Multi Loom but you can also use your weave-it or the Tiny Weaver Square or any other loom you have that will make a 3 1/2” to 4” square.
As a little bonus, I am offering 10% off the 4” Multi loom for weavers who would like to join in but don’t have a loom. (Sorry you missed the sale but you can still get your hand crafted hard wood loom at www.hazelroselooms.com )
This is a great group for doll lovers of all ages and we’d be delighted to have you join us. The WAL will start
February 1 so you have time to go though your stash, find your looms and yarn. I will be using a variety of yarns, mostly sock yarns but any that makes a nice fabric on your loom will do fine.
No age limits, either direction! Come play with us!!

Samantha is modeling the dress we’ll be making but I have several other patterns to share with WAL Members!

This peasant girl skirt can be made as full as you like. Mine may not be quite full enough. I guess Molly hasn’t spun up enough sock yarn! lol

And there are more, once you see the possibilities with small looms, there’ll be no stopping you!

Here’s a couple of the fancier ones I’ve made, some using more than one loom. Well, you get the idea! Even tho the layout of these pictures is getting weird on me you can see that you can do a lot with your little loom. You don’t need to knit to make a great wardrobe for you doll! But come join us and learn how easy it really is. And how much fun!

Rain?

Our promised rain… well, they said 60% chance…. turned out to be 40% that it wouldn’t. Not a drop. Very disappointing as we really do need it and our rain is very late this year. This storm all went north of us it looks like, tho we did have our first little fire last evening. I’m going to have to turn the water back in the garden. But it’s been cool enough nights that all but the Kale and the other few cool weather plants have done. I picked the last of things yesterday. There are still quite a few tomatoes that I’m hoping will at least show a little color before frost so that they can ripen indoors. A late cold spring and a long cool dry fall do not make for good gardening. But here’s yesterdays harvest. The little green melon would have been a cantaloupe but the vine died so it was only starting to show some orange. Bummer. The apples are windfall, those on the tree are better after frost.

We are getting ready to leave for the next show. It’s near Seattle, the Northwest Fiber Fusion, on Oct 20-21, in Winston at the fairground. If you are in the area do come by and see us. And Randy wants to visit Grizzly Tools, which is in the area, so I get to go to the American Girl Doll Store! I’ve never been to one so I am excited. I am going to take Addy and see if they can do something about her hair in the salon, there. Meantime, I made a couple Halloween outfits for them. The knitted Sweater is a pattern from a Ravelry knitter, Jacqueline Gibb. The woven one is mine, ‘stealing’ her Boo idea, but Kanani doesn’t need a heavy sweater in Hawaii, after all! Hope your autumn is going as it should!

Busy Month for shows!

I’m taking the cats to the pet motel tomorrow and getting the dog washed. We head out Friday to Natural Fiber Fair in Arcata to join in the fun there for our first time. This fair has been going on for 22 years but it’s the first time we’ve been part of it. I am looking forward to it. And it’s on the coast, which will be fun, too. as the weather is perfect!

The end of the month is the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival and we’ll be OFFF to it in a couple more weeks. Today on American Girl Knitters on Ravelry we discussed a Weave ALong to be tentatively set for January/February. that will be fun , too. We’ll weave a doll dress, of course!

Speaking of dolls… I got a new one today. She’s an American Girl, too. An older one, no longer made by Pleasant Company. I knew she was coming in just her undies so i found some patterns from fellow dollers and had some waiting for her. Now that she’s here for me to fit I can start weaving her wardrobe, too! Meet Skyler! She’s having a bad hair day just out of the box but is in great shape elsewhere. She even stands up. her mini skirt is just a tad too mini but the sweater fits just fine.

I really haven’t make a whole project on the new peg loom so thought I ought to give it a serious try. Randy designed this one at the request of several weavers. It seems to be going quickly and is making a very plush rug. I’m using a reel of selvage cut from knit fabric. I’ve used the smooth-and- cut smaller version of this fabric to make place mats on the Mat Maker loom, & wove a larger rug on my old rug loom that I gave away. There was lots of this fabric. it was given me by a neighbor of my Rogue River sister. Here’s what I have so far.

I didn’t realize how long it’s been since I posted! Sorry ’bout that! We have been busy, tho. Randy has under taken a new project for me, and maybe for sale once we get the “bugs” worked out. It’s a doll storage and clothes trunk. He calls it a steamer trunk. The first prototype gave us a clue about what we need fro the remodeled one. For instance, this one has no room for the doll. Since I tote a couple of these with me to shows they do need a safe way to travel.

And I finally finished my toaster cover. Had a time getting it to felt. I used Noro sock yarn and I have found Noro easy to felt in the past but this sock yarn has silk so maybe that was the reason. Anyway, it’s done and I’m happy with it. I am working on one for the mixer now.

And I’ve been ‘inventing’ clothing patterns for the little 6″ American Girl dolls, too. Those are such fun, fast and easy, even with tiny needles and yarns. You can find those on Ravelry, tho there aren’t many posted yet. I have a couple of knitters working furiously testing my creations! lol

And I have gotten a bit of canning done as well. Bean soup! And I don’t know why this blue line is here…aauugh!

But in the meantime… The snow is starting to melt tho we keep getting threatened with more, none has fallen recently. But it’s cold! The wind keeps it icy in spite of the bright sunshine we have today. Hope you all had a Lovely Valentines day and are looking forward to spring. I see a few bulbs starting to push up some green!

We finally got some. Can’t read that ruler very well but I’m not going out there again to take another one! It’s right at 6″ on the bird feeder at the edge of the deck. But the wizards say it’s gonna warm up and rain. Clear up to 5500′! That’s evil!

Winter?

They say we are going to get some snow after all. So far all we have is frost and ice. Treasure Creek is starting to ice up

and my deck is growing crystals!

I think that’s pretty neat! But… I am staying indoors as much as possible and working with the looms and knitting needles and warm fuzzy yarn! I hope you are staying warm, too! If you need a looms, check out my Etsy store for some bargains. Hazel’s Creations

Weaving the Norwegian Slippers

I saw this done with knitted squares and of course thought right away, I can do that with the looms! And I can. Sis made a pair that turned out nicely to fit her. I put mine in the washer and went away to cut put soles and they felted up to the maximum and look nice but do not fit me. Too small. The pair i made using the 3.5″ loom are also tightly felted and child size but I don’t know what size. They are about 5″ long. I used some squares I had in stash so the “pair” don’t match. But now I know what they will do, anyway.

I used the 7″ square loom. for the largte ones and the 3.5″ for the small ones.

I hope you all had a great christmas and are going, tonight, to have a Happy and SAFE New Year’s celebration! The old folk here in Coffee Creek will have a quiet one at home. He’s gotten a cold somewhere and tho we were invited to a party I guess we ought not go spread the germs around. I have my fingers x-ed that I can get by without it.

But we enjoyed ourselves in Sausalito with Randy’s step-mom. It was a nice treat for a couple of country bumpkins! She took us to see Beach Blanket Babylon which has been running in San Francisco since 1974. It’s a sort of satire and is updated frequently so is really entertaining. We loved it. Here’s the pair of them waiting in line. Don’t he look cheerful?!this is why the kids call him Grumpa!

Of course we went to see other sights, too. The Bridge, of course, from up on the hill above Ft. Baker. It wasn’t exactly foggy but there was a mist.

The houses in Sausalito are all stacked on top of each other. No kidding! These are the ones that look directly out into the bay. MIL lives up the hill a couple blocks and I do mean UP!

And we got to the beach. Well, I have to admit we only got to the parking lot. The wind of icy cold and gusting. The spume off the waves was flying back out to sea! The gulls had to flap just to stay in place and had to tack to make headway! So I took this picture from the car. yeah, I’m wimpy!

And Sheba was nice enough to model the coat I knitted for her and didn’t even seem to mind it so I guess that was a success!
