7″ square as a weavie

7sq_as_weavie (198k image)

Found this pattern on Jana’s blog and wondered if it would work on the 7″ square. It does… with adjustments. I’ll write these up and post them later but Himself wants to go Now…
… so I’m off.
Cut & past.. http://eloomanator.eloomanation.com/

Okay, back to the square. Instructions say under one over 5 across, but with the number of nails on the 7″ square the last set is under one, over 3, under the loop, then you return repeating the previous row, you’ll go over and under the same strands as you did the last time. Then one row of plain weave, and repeat. I thought it looked a little thin so I wove the variegated strand though just the needle woven part and followed it exactly. It would be easier to just weave a double strand the first time. I left long tails and wove then down the sides, following the previous strand there as well. It looks better on the side with the variegated yarn, I think. I think, tho if I do this one again, I’ll weave double the whole thing. I used a worsted weight wool and I’m thinking I may try felting it. If I do, I’ll post the results (if they aren’t too awful! )

A second bloom

FallRoses (181k image)

It’s the second bloom for these two– which is a first! πŸ˜€ I finally got brave enough, or desperate enough, to prune. I haven’t a clue but I did it and they have enjoyed it no end and here’s my reward! I will tackle the white climber this fall and hope for as good luck.
I’ve moved most of my mini roses, which were doing poorly and have been rewarded by blooms from them as well. These are all clustered around the kitchen door and the doe hasn’t ventured that far just yet. She doesn’t seem to bother the climbers on the lawn side, dunno if that’s because they don’t taste good or if they are just protected by being right on the house.
Tho come to think if it, she ate cousin Kathy’s potted plants on her front door step! πŸ˜‰ I can understand the lilies, deer seem to love lilies, but she ate the marigolds, too, and I’ve never know anything to eat marigolds. But she also ate my rhubarb leaves…!
August is getting hot out here. Hope you are keeping cool! Weave Cotton!

http://bugguide.net/node/view/19538#web_references You’ll have to cut and paste to use the link, I dunno how to do ‘hyper’ here. But it can help you identify the bugs in your yard. I’ve found a couple of my butterflies and this guy is a Yellow Faced Bumblebee And he love my yard. They are visiting the self-heal and the plantain and also like the oregano. I did see a smaller bee, only got a quick glance but it looked like are regular honey bee. Only saw the one if that was it. Pretty scary but at least we have these guys. and I found two more kinds of butterflies today. Haven’t been able to identify them very accurately yet. Small guys. One might even be called tiny.
Anyway… keep in mind that most bees (not to be confused with wasps and hornets!) are not aggressive and we Need them! Please don’t poison your yard!
Think green… also alive!

She brought the babies today!

The doe finally brought her babies around today. The one on the right was so busy eating my raspberries that she didn’t even see me crawling across the lawn to try to get her picture until her later coming twin spotted me. She thought about it for some time and then decided she’d better not take any chances and hopped back over to Mom, who was eating our apple tree. They are cute! I wish I had a camera with a longer lens. I can’t get close enough before I spook them. Oh well… Guess I’d better get out and pick the berries. I noticed some ripe ones this morning. There may be some left! πŸ˜€
