Spring… for real!

FirstDaffie (140k image)

The first daffies to bloom in my yard. But the jays are nesting in the rose bush and the robins are raising the dickens all day long now. I even got out there with the rake and clened up some leaves and satuff that I didnt’ do last fall. In fact, I’m getting ready to go crank up the mower and see if I can help out the lawn a bit.
Wish me luck!

Experimenting with pastels

Girl2 (114k image)

I’ve never worked with pastels before but we did a little thing in class Monday and I rather enjoyed it so wanted to try this girl and I think she turned out pretty well, all in all. I also think I’m going to enjoy working with this medium!
Have work in the loom shop today, too, and knitting projects to finish for my book and a new weaving project underway, that I’ve been asked to do for someone else’s book. That’s exciting, if I can pull it off.
And the crocus and windflowers are blooming, trees are budding… I’m getting the outdoors urges, as I know you are , too. Daylight saving time does not give us long enough days, no matter what they claim!

My Lace hat

lace_hat (144k image)

I posted it in January when I finished knitting it but just this last weekend finally got it blocked… thanks to Sis’s hat form and bottle of starch! It’s not a very practical hat for my ‘lifestyle’ but it is pretty. If you want to knit something a little different but not all that difficult, this is a good one. It’s from Gathering Of Lace by Meg Swanson. I used a linen thread. I don’t know much about thread sizes but I’d compare it to, maybe, a size #10 crochet thread. Smaller than bedspread cotton, anyway. The ribbon is a sheer that pretty well matches in color. I thought a hat this delicate needed a delicate hat band, too. Now I just have to figure out where to keep it. Oh… I just remembered… I have my Great Aunt’s hat box. I wonder if it’d fit. Better go check that out! πŸ™‚

Stuck in the storm…

Rosys_snow3 (93k image)

Well, it’s pretty and we need the snow-pack, but I have a car full of groceries & was planning to go home today.
So far as I know Siskiyou was open this morning but Scott very likely isn’t and Randy says, ” Don’t Set Wheel On The Road!” So I guess I’ll be visiting Sis longer than planned. BIL is on the way home from a non-working day… they’ve been closed down for the next two… three days, too.

sigh…. πŸ™„

But we’re better off than you guys in the N.E.!
Stay warm!

February

I’ve done what I’ve been saying for years that I was going to do. I’m taking at class from the college. It’s a water color class. I haven’t touched my paints in years, but I am really enjoying this class even if it does mean driving 80 miles twice a week. This is one I turned out last week. Not going to turn the art world upside down, but I think it shows that I may eventually relearn some of it. I am playing at this point tho, just learning the medium. The class goes to June so I have plenty of time for the serious painting requested for the end.

Meantime I am still fibering and the loom shop is as busy as ever, even tho I have been remiss at keeping up this blog. Any of you in Great Britain can now get your looms locally! Check with Carole at http://www.easisites.co.uk/webbsgreenfarmwool.

It’s raining here and I hope building a snowpack up above. Hope you are enjoying the last of winter where you are. (or Summer if you’re on the other half of the world! πŸ˜€ )

January…

cori2 (77k image)

What else needs to be said? I think Cori’s attitude here says what we’re all feeling. I have looms to pack and ship today, and domestics badly in need of tending, I may get some fiber time in later today… :doze:

The sun is shining and the temps are almost above freezing already. No sign of our badly needed snow yet. Yeah, Randy’s been able to work right though the winter so far, but it’s going to be a long, hot, dry summer if we don’t get some snow up there on the peaks.

I know, I know, quitchurbitchin’. πŸ˜›

Well, I just wanted to put something here to let you know I’m still around. Just mid-winter bla’s.

Hope things are cheerful where you are! πŸ˜‰

Ice on the water

CoffeeCreek2a (154k image)

All that white stuff around the rocks and the edges of Coffee Creek is ice. It melted some yesterday but isn’t gone and refroze nicely today. But it only got down to 25 last night, better than the 16 we had before. Still no snow in sight, tho. It’s getting late, too, and our snow-pack is way short.

But I guess Randy and the guys will be getting a lot of plumbing jobs this spring. Starting right here. 😦 The hose bib out front split, whichis the one I use to water all the planter boxes and the dogs. It’s the only one we’ve found so far…

Well. I got the mid-winter droops. Hope you all are doing better.

My lace hat

LaceHat2 (43k image)

Knitted this from the pattern in A Gathering Of Lace. It needs a bit of blocking but I’ll have to wait until I can find a big piece of board or something to pin it out on. I think it’s going to be okay, tho. I’ve been knitting little things. The hat is out of some linen thread I bought to weave a table cloth, but that didn’t work out. Just finished a doily for my kitchen turn table. Now I’m crocheting a dress for my girl doll. Too cold to do anything outside. It’s been around 16 for the last three+ mornings. And looks like continuering in the same vein for another week. 😦 Oh well, the fire is warm and it gives me a good excuse to sit and play with yarn.
But what I wanted to say is that you won’t be seeing the Blue Thing finished any time soon. Ran into a major snag. But I will figure it out one of these days!
