April!

It’s Really spring now! Warm, sunny, things starting to grow, birds carrying sticks, my birthday! The gal friends gave me a party, it was great fun to see everyone after being holed up all winter. We were all suffering from ‘cabin fever’.
And little Ellie Petunia’s mom brought me a picture of her sweet self wrapped in the blanket I made for her on the 6 inch Multi loom. It’s some nice Green Mountain Spinnery cotton and Mom says it gets softer all the time. Ellie is 6 months now and sat smiling and talking to us, such a good baby! I was happy to see the blanket in use, of course!

More of the same…Welcome to spring.

Well, I am weaving and making DVD’s and I’m sure I’m expected in the loom shop but the slush is falling out of the trees making it dangerous out there . And my shoes are wet just from stepping out to the wood shed. Not sure I want to venture further! Bah. That one in the center is my still blooming primroses. Poor things.

More weaving swatches

I’ve been working with this Coats & Clark Luster Sheen yarn. I like the way the yarn knits up but this colorway does not work with the pattern I wanted to use it for so I thought I’d give the looms a try. It really makes a difference on different looms. The square is the 4″ Multi woven diagonally and the other is the 4×6 Multi needle woven. Does not even look like the same yarn. This is a stash yarn, I guess I need to buy the new colorways for my project since these are not on their list anymore. I’ll have to test them out, too.
But I hope you are using your looms. I have a couple projects coming along. I’m not making great headway in this gloomy weather. Weaving time somehow seems to turn into nap time! lol;

March already?!

It has been a while since I posted here. Bad Hazel! but time does fly…well , not fly exactly. More like drag this time of year. I keep busy but not the kind of stuff to post about really. The sun was shining this morning and Himself invited me to go for a ride with Him and The Dog so I did. We went out and got a load of shale for the driveway. Well, he did. I took the camera. It was pleasant getting out of the house for a bit.
I’ve been walking with a neighbor, which also gets me out but the weather has been cold and wet, either rain or snow so while getting some exercise was not really a nice stroll, tho the company was enjoyable.
Still weaving squares for my two projects.

Next Morning…

Next morning all the snow is gone again and it’s raining hard. Forecast is for more snow. Sure is spring! Cori’s abandoned tennis ball is laying out there with the drowning Primroses. She loves snow but opts to stay in if it’s rain. Can’t blame her.

But I am using the time to get some weaving done. My aim is a top for myself using whatever random texture patterns I can find or invent. I have a nice stack of them so far but many more to go. HD told me I have shop work to do today, too.

And I am working on cleaning the crystals on my chandelier before my tea party next week. I had not realized how dusty it had gotten. And I took down the xmas decoration that has been there for several years! lol The party is just to break the doldrums with a few friends. We’re neighbors but rarely see each other this time of year & everyone seemed happy to have an excuse to break their dullness. Including the hosetess!

January…

What can you say. it’s January. Kinda like Monday. lol Well, we have been at work in the loom shop, Randy is helping a friend move as well. They are giving up their grocery and gift shop here in TC. Just can’t make ends meet anymore. We are slowly becoming a ghost town. Very depressing, very January.

But on the other hand Randy did finish building a car for our grandson, a model of our old Jimmy, which he loved. I think it looks great. The real one is bright red but this one is walnut and maple.

I am knitting and weaving and reading and doing laundry and rearranging furniture… you know, the kind of stuff you do in January.

January….

January. Lots of indoor days, snow, rain, sleet, ice… Read the other day that 49 of 50 states have snow, Florida being the exception. Give me lots of time to occupy. Got the looms out the other day and tried a couple color patterns I’ve been thinking about. The hounds-tooth and a log cabin. Got both to work, but have not yet figured out the Log cabin in diagonal. Still trying. Here’s what I came up with.

A WAL… a weave along!

We’re having a little Weave along on Ravelry Looms To Go based on the popular sudoku puzzles. Some of you can make your own patterns but I can never solve those things so have to ‘cheat” and get somebody else’s answers. I got one done and even assembled it wrong but it was too late by the time I discovered that so it stays! 😉 Anyway, if you have a square loom… it doesn’t matter which one or what size, come join us! This is my first one. I’m using the 2″ square and making a doll blanket. I like dolls (Did you guess! lol) and it will go fairly fast, leaving me time to fit it in with all the rest of the stuff on my to-do list.
We had a sunny day today with a high of 36. The Weather Wizards have promised us sunshine nearly all week and even a couple of degrees warmer days and nights. That would be good. Hope the sun is shining on you, too. Get out you looms and join our WAL!

New slippers

I used the Fiber Trends felted clog pattern that I bought years ago. I don’t know if they still carry it but it is a “classic” so very likely they do.
I have an extra wide foot so I knitted to extra rows on the sole. That worked fine with the exceptions noted below.
First, the pink pair, the first one I made , it’s mate, and the color catcher results:

I could not find my #13 circ so I knitted the first one with a #10 using the mens small size as compensation, I hoped. I only did the one, in case it didn’t work, I would not have wasted as much yarn. It did work but the brown faded into the pink, giving me an orange slipper. Sis told me about the Shout Color Catchers she had bought but not tried and sent me a couple in the mail. I used it when felting the rest of the slippers and as you can see, they do work!
The second pair was knitted on my found #13.

Pay attention to the yarn you are using. Use the same yarn for sole and tops. I didn’t notice until I had knitted quite a bit, that the grey was coarser than the blue. It felted less, or at least slower, so the soles are a bit longer and wider. Not enough to make them useless but it could easily be a problem. There was no fading, but whether that was the catcher, which, as you see is strongly brown, or the yarn, your guess is as good as mine.

The edging, which I knitted according to the pattern rather than as I did the pink ones, is way loose, but very likely that is as much the grey yarn as it is the technique. In the future, however, they will all be left flat. I can fix this easily enough. There is a tiny bit of difference in size, which could be that I worked an extra row or just the felting process. Anyway, I now have two pair of usable slippers.
Now- on to other projects!
Hope the last week of 2010 is going well for you! If you are snowed in, get out your yarn, looms, needles, hooks, and Make Stuff!

Wow! What happened to this month

December has flown by and here I am not posting again. Been busy but that’s a poor excuse, isn’t it.
It has rained off all the snow but there is more predicted for today. We’ll see. Poor sleep last night. The bear was back for his weekly pass though but stopped here for a couple hours. We got a new fridge and the old one is setting in the driveway waiting to be hauled off. Still smells like food tho, I guess, if you have a bear nose. He did get it open and pulled out the drawers trying to find some goodies. Dog barking, husband yelling… I hope he doesn’t come back tonight.
I have Christmas songs on the XM this morning and am working on a holiday sweater for one of my dolls. I might get ambitious later and do some domestics. Himself has gone to help a neighbor move and then to visit his step-mom so I have the whole day to goof off. Yeah, that part about getting ambitious might have been a fairy tale.
Hope you are having a restful holiday season and not stressing out.
Don’t Worry, Be happy! Still good advice.
