It’s done

LoneStar94a (33k image)

It’s pretty and I like the yarn but I’m not entirely satisfied with it. The star buckles a bit in the center. I haven’t decided if it’s the bulky yarn or something else. One of our customers is making a double star quilt using some fine llama and hers appears to be laying nicely flat, so it may be a yarn problem here. I can see this is going to require some more “research”! πŸ˜€

Quilt Progress

LoneStar93 (27k image)
I was asked to post a progress picture. As you can see, I really have made some progress in spite of other excitments. πŸ˜‰ I have just 14 squares to weave to finish the last side of the border. I think I might do a single row of reverse sc to finish, depending on what it looks like in this yarn. It dosen’t work with them all. It is gettig to be a lot bigger than I envisioned at the beginning, too! Harder to find a place to photgraph it! I was thinking of this as a crib blanket. Anybody have an idea of the measurments for one of those? This one is going to be square but I could plan better in the future.

Update on our fire

!Fire042a (52k image)
Latest: The Official Report is that is is NOT our fire, after all. πŸ˜› Now we get to feel guilty for being relived that it’s in someone elses town. 😦 It’s French Gulch and they are reportedly evacuating the town, which is not hard to believe as F.G. strings along a narrow canyon. The ash is still falling here and the smoke still high but thick. They are sending people to Weaverviille to the high school. The Searchlight says it’s 200 acres on one report and 2000 on another. I’d guess 200 at this time is more likely. Randy says we can unpack now, but I think I’ll just leave it like it is until we get a rain.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Early panic:
We have a fire here. I’m not sure what the situation is just yet because the power just came back on, but in case it goes off again I wanted you to know we may be leaving. And if we do leave we’ll be heading north. The rumor is that there is one Lewiston way and one up Swift Creek or Buckeye, nobody seems to know. Randy is in Trinity Center right now so hopefully he’ll have better news when he gets home. I took this photo just now, that’s the corner of my house looking south east. It’s ugly.
I’ve packed up a suit case and captured one cat. I’m making copies of my loom bookwork now before the power goes again. I’ll try to keep you informed.
But whatever happens, we’ll be safe. Cross you fingers for everyone’s homes, tho!

The fire

We’re not getting a lot of smoke from this fire but it’s pretty awful in the valley. Poppa says it isn’t bad out in Happy Valley, he has a little elevation out there, about 1000′ I think. The mountains pretty well keep it away from us, but those people must really be suffering. Even if they aren’t among the 80 family’s who have lost their homes in this 8,000+ acre fire started by a guy’s lawnmower with, apparently, a bad spark arrester.

More Star progress

Here’s what I have today. I am weaving Tiny squares for the border and holding my breath that I have enough of this yarn. I bought it on ebay and L.B. apparently has no more so…. πŸ˜₯ I think there’ll be enough.
I think this is turning out rather pretty and certainly going faster than most of my projects do. It’s ‘sposed to be another hot one today so between laundry and bookwork, I should get more Tiny’s woven.
Stay cool!
πŸ˜›

A hot time in the old town today!

flagman (28k image)

The flagman jumped oput of sight just as I snapped this. Looking for some shade probably. πŸ˜› It was 104 at this spot. But it got to 112 by the time I got to the garage where I was ‘sposed to pick up Randy. The mechanic had fixed his truck by the time I got there, tho, so I could have stayed in the mountains where it was a cool(er) 95 and finished my weaving! πŸ™„
Hope your day went well!

Star progress…

Two more tris to go. I should have that done by tommrow and be starting on the border. Was thinking green tiny squares, which would make the border about 3″ wide. Now I wonder if I shouldn’t do something white in between… any suggestions? I can crochet, too.

4-H ‘ers

Got this photo from the 4-H group who raise llama and used handspun llama and the 12″ square looms to make this afghan to raise money for a charity project of theirs! I think the kids did a Wonderful job with this and have something they can be proud of. The afghan will be visiting fairs and fiber shows this summer while they sell tickets with this blanket as the grand prize. Good work, kids! πŸ™‚
