New Boy Toys…

Tonka3 (132k image)

Grampa struck it rich! One of his customers is moving and their grandsons being grown now, they had no need of these wonderful old METAL Tonka vehicles. There’s trucks and all sorts of construction machines. He got 6 of them to go with the one dump truck (the orange-ish one) we already had. The dirt pile is getting a whole new remodeling!
This is their last week. We have to head up to Medford on Friday so they can get back on the plane at 6 am Saturday. Got a call from Eddy yesterday. He and Justin made it home safely early Sat. morning. The last of the summer people in the two neighboring cabins are also leaving today. It’s going to be quiet around here. How shall we stand it! πŸ˜‰ It’s been great visiting with everyone and we’re going to miss them all.

My new toy!

It’s a Cambridge by the Reed Loom Company. It’s been sanded and finished by the husband of the previous owner who gave the loom to me when they moved. She never used it but I’m going to! I ordered the instruction book and already have a nice selection of yarns and many, many weaving books.
What shall I weave first?!

Family reunion

7-8cc (138k image)

πŸ™‚ Brother John and wife, Debi, came up to visit for a few days and meet the kids whom they haven’t seen in years. Rosy came down, too. That’s John and Rosy studying the finer points of modern digital photography. We’ve really enjoyed visiting in spite of the heat and mosquitoes. John and Debi go home tomorrow and Eddy and Justin leave on Friday. Karen has a couple weeks yet and then it’ll be back to just us mouses. :hehe:

Gonin’ fishin’?

Eddy and Justin catching grasshoppers to lure a trout. They hope! Swimming in Trinity’s icy snowmelt later in the day. :O

Hope your 4th is refreshing!

The loom maker comes to the rescue!

BBQ6a! (20k image)

I ran short of briquettes before the shish-kabobs were done! Randy went up to the shop and cut up a bunch of scraps from the loom making. That hard wood made excellent coals and cooked dinner to perfection! The kids got a kick out of eating dinner off a stick and I was delighted with the way it turned out, being my really first successful BBQ. this is supposed to be cooking by The Man Of The House but this guy don’t and I am not really experienced in this form of cooking so we’ve had underdone one night and blackened the next… But this time, except for running shy of fuel, it came out just right. I hope I can do it again when we have a houseful of company this weekend. (knock knock!)

Our Nat’l Forest Fireworks

daylily (197k image)

No fireworks in the forest but the daylilies are making glorious splashes in celebration. And I finally got the lawn mowed so they can be seen. Eddy and Justin may be here tomorrow and next weekend John and Debi and coming then shortly after Dan and his family arrive so we are going to have a lot of company this month. The cabins across the drive are also rented the next month or so to people who’ve been coming up summers for 30+ years, as well.
So I did some yard grooming to make us look… well, we’re country cousins, but spiffed up ones, anyway!
Randy came in bone tired tonight and went to bed before the chickens. The poor boy has to spend tomorrow in the shop. I’ve been printing orders all day. I guess weavers have been inspired by all the fiber fairs lately and are looking for new tools.
Well, I hope you all have a fun and !!safe!! weekend! πŸ™‚

Mt. Shasta from Vista Point on hwy 97

CampingBoys (115k image)

This was a shot taken the first day of their trip showing Mt. Shasta in the background. They all claimed to have had a good time. The boys slept in their tent and Randy in the back of the pick-up, in which he had a mattress. Said it was comfortable except for the voracious mosquito’s. A wet spring means a huge crop of those gals.
They visited the lava caves in the park and Medicine lake. Didn’t get to see Glass Mountain, tho, as that road was still snowed in. Randy was worried about the heat that was predicted for the weekend but said it neared freezing up in the high country that night! :hehe:

Our Weekend…

RogueBoata (264k image)

We sent the boys off with Grampa to go camping and Karen and I went to Rogue River to ride the jet boat up Hellgate Canyon with Rosy & Rex. (third row left side) It was over 100 degrees so getting soaked, as the pilots of these boats make sure you are, was not only delightful, but almost required! I did remember sunscreen so only got a tiny bit of burn where I missed. It was a fun ride. Next day we got pedicures and facials… well, all of us but poor Rosy who was just healing from a dandy case of poison oak which was a gift from the dog. That plant is really lush and potent this wet summer.
Then Monday we went with Rosy to her spinning guild meeting and then did the grocery shopping and came home. Just in time for the longest and loudest thunder storm we’ve had in some time! It must have hung over our house for a good 5 hours! There are just two small fires this morning, tho, since the storm was a wet one, also. But nobody got any sleep before 2 am and the dogs are still skittish today. More in the forecast for tonight…

Well, look at that!

ground_cover (184k image)

This ground cover has been growing in this barrel for at least 5 years and I’ve never seen it bloom before! I think this is the Year Of The Plants. It’s been cool and wet and, frankly, dreary for people but my plants have thrived (or it that thriven?) on it. Everything has bloomed beautifully, the fruit trees are heavily laden, the lawns and trees are still emerald green, and here’s this little yellow bloomer to top it off. Just goes to show. πŸ™‚
And my thermometer says 85 at 1:30 pm PST rather than 105 as was predicted! :O Pays to live in the mountains by a stream, ‘neath a still (barely) snowy peak. πŸ˜€

Envy me? πŸ˜‰

At the fair with Grampa

fair (77k image)
Grampa’s Co. sponsors a race car so they all packed up and went to the fair to watch the races. (No, they didn’t win) but they did have a good time and enjoyed the important part of the midway… food and fairings!
