Trying a new idea

I wanted to see if I could work a pattern in the three main forms of yarn needle craft for doll clothes. No sewing here but I made this leotard in weaving – Lexi, knitting- Addy, and crochet-Kirsten.   Check the patterns link to the right.

I knitted the first one as that seemed to me to be the easiest to get the shape I wanted as  the bottom part is pretty much based on the Fancy Pantie  pattern. That turned out well.  I can crochet but an not a Crocheter, if you get what I mean. This one has some…er…unusual stitches. I do not know how to crochet short rows properly

so the butt of her leo has a strange looking “eye” pattern but worked out pretty good all in all, I think. The woven one went a lot easier than I had been fearing and is made with two QW squares and a Tiny Weaver tri & square. It took the least amount of yarn to make, of course. I may remove the shoulder ribbons and put buttons on it, too. Now… I hope I can write up decent patterns from my copious notes… pages of which are scratched out as I changed horses midstream! lol

Himself brought Grandmother’s Christmas Cactus over from the studio today. It was not thriving over there and I thought it might like it here where there is a bit more heat and light. What you are seeing is a very large and very old plant that has sat outside each summer for as long as I’ve been acquainted with it. It was this big when I first saw it in 1979 so I have not a guess at how old it might be. But this summer the deer decided, one day when we were gone, that it was eatable . I think it’s going to survive but  we were really bummed to see this damage.  Since old Jack died the deer know no bounds. They come right up to the house and are not easily chased off. They are not a bit afraid of Cori the Corgi who can terrify a grey squirrel.

Well I guess we won’t be putting the plant outside this year and have our fingers crossed that it likes it in here with us.

Survivor?

I’ve been asked about cotton for the doll pantie pattern so I tried it with some Paton’s Glace.  It works up a tince large so I added a row of eyelets under the ribbing and threaded a bit of ribbon just to keep them safe! 🙂 Click on the link to the right to see all the patterns, knit and weave. Not all are for dolls, believe it or not!

Happy New Year

Well, here we are at 2010. So far it looks a lot like 2009 but I’m sure it will probably get better. Maybe as soon as dh heads out to make more tracks in the snow… man, dog & squirrel! It’s raining heavily on the snow again and he’s fidgiting. Hope your New Year is starting out warm and comfortable.

Merry Christmas

Sorry I have not been updating this blog lately, but this is such a slow time of year that there is just nothing that interesting to talk about! we got a little snow earlier but that is mostly rained off since. We are working in the loom shop and Randy is rebuilding his lumber sheds in preparation for building our new shop building come spring. I’ve been weaving doll clothes and doing some knitting. I have a curtain project figured out for the Baby Wolf but have not been able to get my warp measured as the warping board is on the porch and it’s just too darned cold out there!
We were invited to spend Christmas with Randy’s step mom in Sausalito but he does not want to travel on the holiday. Too bad, I have never spent Christmas in the city and was kind of looking forward to it. So it will just be the two of us. But it looks like we may have three grandsons here this coming summer! Three teens! That should liven things up!
I hope you are all having a lovely Family Christmas and, even if you are up to your chin in snow, that it will be a safe & warm one!
🙂

Frosty was here.

It’s been a little on the chilly side here in the North Fourty. When I was out for my walk awhile ago I could see it was snowing quite nicely up in the Alps. We had some flurries here this morning but nothing since tho we are predicted to have some tonight. It’s clouded up and getting dark. We’ll know by morning, I’m sure! 😀
Happy winter, everyone!

Welcome to December

haws (498k image)

Grandfather’s Hawthorn tree is loaded with haws this year. It’s a perfectly decorated Christmas tree for the yard! I Hope the local critters like them as there are two loaded trees full! I guess I ought to ‘google’ and find out if they are good for people since there’s more than enough to share. But even if they are not, they are so very pretty.

Our winter weather this week is cold but clear and bright. We can even work outside… after about 11 am and until the sun sets around 3:30 pm! 😀

I put up my little fiber optic tree and set the guardian angle on top. The Multi loom stockings I wove for Weavezine last year are hung By The Chimney With Care as well. I guess that constitutes my decorating for the season. :hehe: I may get around to making a wreath for the porch or I may not.
Hope you are enjoying the season!
🙂

If you are weaving on our looms and have posted anything to your blog, I’d like to link it here if you would be so kind to send me the link via my email. Thanks!

Had a lovely Thanksgiving with Sis and husband. We left early because of threatened snow. Hubby says his truck does not do well in snow. But it was not a problem. There was a frosting of snow, making the trees very pretty and the old berms clean and tidy, but the road, tho wet. was clear and we did not have any problem. Got home to a cold house but even that is now warming rapidly.
Hope you all had a safe holiday. 🙂
