Spring cleaning

lawn-work (360k image)

Worked in the loom shop in the morning but we spent the afternoon mowing, pruning, hauling off rocks and dirt from the site of the new deck… coming soon to a yard very near me! lol Cori and Robin ‘helped’. Cori by tripping us up with the tennis ball wherever we stepped and Robin just supervising. We’re both pooped but satisfied with the work we got done. It looks very pretty. πŸ˜€

Our rose bush family

jays3 (208k image)

They’re back in the rose bush again this spring in spite if the severe pruning I gave it this last fall. The babies are getting big, too, so I’m keeping an eye on them. When it looks like they’re going to have a go at fledging I’ll keep the cats in for a couple days to let them get the hang of it in comparative safety. They have been using this nest for better than 10 years now, so I guess I must have fairly good timing. πŸ™‚ Oh yeah…they are Steller Jays.

Home again!

DSC02707a (219k image)

We are once again at home in the Trinity Nat’l Forest here in North California. Glad to be home but we had a wonderful time and I’ll be anxious to go again in awhile! This is a photo taken in Utah. We visited the Arches Park and drove down the Colorado River Canyon in Utah, too. You can look at pictures all day and you’ll never know what this place is like until you actually go there yourself. The impact of it is incredible. It’s overwhelming. It’s beautiful and terrifying all at the same time. It boggles the mind how this landscape could have come about. You read about the geological forces at work, but… dang! That just doesn’t cover it!
In any case, the colors, too, are incredible and I collected quite a few baggies of dirt for my dirty pictures. Increased my range of colors by about half. Still looking for a good blue mud. If any of you know where I might find some…? πŸ˜‰
But for now we’re back making looms and filling orders for some very patient weavers!
Thank you all! πŸ˜€

West again

Hazel_Divide (89k image)

We’re in the west again. Passed over the Divide today and are in Grand Junction, Colorado for the night. We want to visit the dinosaur museum tomorrow and then we’re headed Utah way. What a huge country we live in! πŸ˜€ We’ve been visiting parks and overlooks and taking scores of pictures. Saw the Prairie dogs and a coyote today. Just really enjoying the trip, but looking forward to getting home. Not long now! I’ll let you know asap when we arrive. πŸ™‚

The Road Home

roadhome (35k image)

We are back in Kansas today. Randy has “barn fever” so we’re been doing 600 Interstate miles for the last two days! (The photo is on a detour for Hwy50, tho… I’m not idiot enough to stand in the middle of I-70!)Today will be a little more relaxed because I want to explore Dodge City a bit. I expect we’ll be camping in Colorado tonight, tho. We want to have another try at visiting the Arches Nat’l Park in Utah that we missed on the way east and after that I think the rest will be just gettin’ home again. It’s been a lovely and needed vacation trip but we’re getting “saddle sore” from being in this truck so long! πŸ˜€
It’ll be good to get home again. Thanks to all of you waiting for your looms, for your patience. Won’t be long now! πŸ™‚

Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival

maryland1a (92k image)

Okay, so I’m a little naive, but the number of people who showed up for this affair rather startled me! And Saturday started out raining nicely. It did clear up in the afternoon, but Sunday it rained all day and tho they were slower arriving they came again, in spite of the drenching weather. I went early Sunday so was actually able to get into the booths and spend some money! πŸ˜€ I met some net friends for the first time and altogether enjoyed myself immensely. We ‘re heading west again now. Will be at my cousin’s in Missouri tomorrow then back on the road. Not sure of the schedule after that. But we’re heading home. πŸ˜€

From the Kingdom of Far, Far Away…

Hiway50Start4 (33k image)

We visited Ocean City, Maryland today, even drove up into Delaware, just so we could say we’d been there! πŸ˜€ But this sign stands on the sandbar side of the bridge. We did not drive the whole length of 50 this time, we joined up with it in Nevada, but we’ve been the rest of the way, or will have once we get back to St. Louis, anyway. And we’ve been on the missing CA part many times.

In the morning we start for Patapsco State Park where we’ll be staying while visiting the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. I’m going to be at the Ravelry get-together in the rabbit barn. Hope to meet friends! πŸ™‚

Boating on Chesapeake Bay

boat3a (62k image)

Eddy got his boat out, first time this spring, so naturally we drifted down stream bird-watching for a bit! πŸ˜€ But he got things organized in a little while and we toured upstream as far as the tide would allow and then went out on the bay. We did not get to do any fishing because of the screw-up I made in our time schedule, but we enjoyed our ride anyway. Well, most of us did… Cori , it turns out, is not a boat dog. As soon as we reached shore again she high tailed it for the truck and would not come near the boat again!
Now we’re headed for Ocean City for a couple days before going to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Cool… I wasn’t sure we were going to make it! Hope to meet lots of fiber folk

Beach bumming

beachB1a (54k image)

We went exploring this morning. Eddy took us to his favorite shark-tooth hunting beach. We also drove around and looked at the town. It’s a lovely day here on North Beach and smells like a hay field! The sun has been shining for two days now so everyone is getting out the lawn mowers! πŸ˜€ Things are blooming and it’s just lovely.
But… I have to waste part of this beautiful day doing laundry. Some things you just can’t avoid, even on vacation. πŸ˜›

Hope it warm and sunny for you!

Visiting Maryland

Maryland (30k image)

We walked the docks today and looked at boats and Chesapeake bay scenery. Lots of condos lining the “shore” here. It’s a former summer place that has become year ’round and densely packed. Too densely for a couple of old country folk! But it’s interesting and very likely a good experience for us. πŸ˜›
But son Eddy (above with Randy) says he does not want to live in San Jose… I fail to see the difference except in humidity!

Hope you are experiencing news things!

PS: We get to go to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival… as tourists! πŸ˜€
