The New Knitting Loom

This is the new knitting loom. It has nails with 1/4″ centers and the gap spacing adjusts from 3/8″ to 1″. There are some knitted samples so you can see the fabric on the next page. I am having fun with this new knitter. It makes very nice fabric!

Using acrylic baby yarn.
From the bottom: Knit at the widest gap, center is knit at 1/2″ and that bit at the top is where I tried a different stitch, but I’ve forgotten what it was. The one inch would make a really lovely lacy scarf, I think.

This is Patons Classic Wool Merino knit at three differnt gap settings. It works up very nicely at any of them.

Some fuzzy blue yarn from stash. It might be commercial mohair but seems softer. I thought it would make a good skinny scarf as I only have the one ball. I am usint the 1″ gap setting. It knits very cuddly! 🙂

  1. In enjoyed your step-by-step instructions on weaving using a meat tray. And now this knitting loom! I have never seen one of these before — would you mind posting instrucions on how it is done — this looks like something I might get the hubby to make for me……

  2. The samples look great Hazel! I’ve got to buy one of these to try this soon. This looks like just what I need for a portable thing to do. Nice job.

  3. Isn’t this actually an old (maybe ’30’s) loom, maybe called an Amish knitter or something like that? I have an old one acquired somewhere and have only a vague notion of how it was used. Don’t you use a crochet hook, kind of like the old knitting spools?

  4. It is an old idea, indeed. I doublt if anyone knows how old. This one, however is our new adaption. You do use a hook. and it is just like the old knitting spool, just a large model.

  5. This looks like a lot of fun to knit. Being it is circular I wonder if you could do socks or even mittens some how. Would be great to take with you to an apt or travel etc. Are you selling these? Cheri
